hi

i am an amritdhari gursikh
i want to know that if a sikh does prakash of guru granth sahibje at his home how should he do the seva?

A friend of mine has done guru granth sahibjis parkash but in their kitchen non vegeterian food like pork and beef is being cooked which i feel is not good

To my knowledge of sikhi i am aware that if one does prakash of guruji in that house liquor and non veg is prohibited just like it is in gurdwara

Kindly throw some light on this issue and provide some evidence so that i can convince my friend not to do this sin

Thanking you

Arminder

Sat Siri Akaal. I have always understood that a Sikh house with Guruji installed should be free of liquor, meat, and non-marital sex. There are, however, a lot of devoted Gursikhs who were raised eating meat and see no problem with it and keep SGGS installed in their house, but cook meat regularly (but do not serve it in their home gurdwara!). So the meat thing is a source of contention, as you can see elsewhere in this Youth Forum. Also, some folks might split hairs and say that as long as the meat and liquor are not IN Babaji's room, it is OK, but this is NOT true.

Your friend has to get there himself. There is a lot of information on this forum and the SIkhnet site about meat, Siri Guru protocol, and the rehit. Research it out and show it to him. But don't expect to change him. Perhaps it is your seva to INFORM him, but let him decide from the heart what is right. It is not up to us to force others to do things our way when they are in their own homes.
