WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA

WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

I have been a regular reader of Sikhnet youth Q/A forum. I want to tell you that I like it a lot and you guys are doing a great Sewa!

But in regards to this question asked by another person, I do not think that moderator gave an appropriate answer/solution to the problem. I would like to give my second opinion and hope that this is posted for the benefit of Sangat.

Sikhism is totally against worship of anybody except almighty 'Waheguru'. Guru Sahiban has taught this numerous times in their bodily lives and Guru Granth Sahib Ji teach that today through the divine Shabad. You do not and should not bow to any Baba/dead person just to appease your family or to avoid a family dispute. Try to explain to your family that you want to live a Sikh way of life that Guru Granth Sahib Ji teaches us. If they still don't get your point and keep bothering you, then you need to take a firm stand and let them know that Sikh Shaheed's and even Guru Ji themselves (fifth Guru Ji and Ninth Guru Ji) did not bow in front of anybody even under immense pressure.

I understand that a deadlock in any relationship should be avoided as long as possible but if your principles are at stakes, then you should have strength to face and fight against opression (from within your family or outside your family).

There are many unknowns about your situation, like what is your financial situation, can you support yourself or are you dependent on your family. I don't think that you can practice Sikh way of life in 'Chahrdi Kala' while living in such a superstitious environment. 'Sangat' matters a lot, and the very first 'Sangat' we get is from our own family. If you want to live the true life of a discipled Sikh, you should start seeking Sikh sangat and move out such an environment.

Regards,
-Lakhminder Singh
