Summary of Question: | Bend It Like Beckham |

I am a pupil from Germany. At school we deal with the Indian history and especially with the Sikhism at the moment.
That is why we came across the film "Bend it like Beckham" and there we found a scene which gave us much to talk about.
This scene shows an English girl who insults an Indian girl by calling her a "Paki". Obviously the Indian girl is very upset because of this and so I wonder what kind of swearword "Paki" is! Could you please tell me the meaning or the reason for this, beeing an insult.
I hope You may help me,
Yours sincerely,
Lisa

"Paki" is short for Pakistani and it a common derogatory term in the UK used to refer to anyone of Indian/Pakistani descent or even anyone who looks like they may be so.
