Greetings,

Is it Ok for different casts of sikh to join in Marriage? The answer I suspect is yes, so why do so many people say if you are a jat you can only marry a jat, ect. Are these people too old fashioned?

WAHE GURU JI KA KHALSA WAHE GURU JI KI FATEH

Dear One:
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

YOU ARE RIGHT. The answer is "YES".

As far as any Sikh should be concerned, it is OK for different castes to marry one another. 10th Guruji made it clear to us that caste is and should be irrelevant to Sikhs, for all are equal in Guru's eyes. No one is superior to another, despite what they think! So the people who say you have to marry within your caste could be called old-fashioned. But I would suggest that they are stuck in the Indian cultural rut of observing caste even though Sikhs are supposed to ignore it and to work to eradicate caste! Caste has caused nothing but division in Indian Sikh communities around the world, if you look at them closely. Let us both pray that our people wake up and live as Guru taught us!

Guru Rakha,
-DKK
