Summary of Question:I want to marry someone who is not a sikh..... what do i do?
Category:Love & Marriage

I am Singaporean sikh boy, of age 20. I am seeing a girl (i shall refer to her as J), and i have fallen deeply in love with her and she with me. She is very decent and makes mee feel like no one else has ever made me feel before. I know that i truly love her and that she loves me.

Things would seem to be perfect but it is far from it. Why?? It is because she is not sikh. She is Hindu. Her parents know about us and they whole-heartedly approve. On my side, from my immediate family only my mother and brother know. My father has not been told due to the fact that he is prone to violence.

My mother keeps telling me that this relationship will NEVER work out and i am extremely hurt by that. I have told my mother that i am not seeing J to keep my mother quiet. I am in fact seeing her everyday. A day without seeing her makes me feel very empty and hollow inside.

Now J understands what I am going through and she says that she would want to become a sikh. She is already practicing soome sikh customs and has been with me to gurdwaras a few times.

I would like to ask you for some advice on what i can do. Is it possible for a Hindu to embrace sikism and how is it done.

All in all i am extremely confuse and depressed.... please help me.
I thank you.

Dear one. Sikhs and Hindu often marry together. At your age it is hard to tell you not to love someone.

It used to be, that the eldest son in each Hindu family would be raised as a Sikh. The Hindu's even consider Guru Nanak as one of their guru's.

I know that this is a tough situation. It is very positive that she is willing to embrace an interest for Sikhee. Start teaching her about the 10 Guru's and the Rehit. Recite Jap Ji together daily in Gurmuhki and study the meaning together in English every day. The "Forklift of time" put you on the path of Dharma. Let the Guru and your devotion to your Dharma lift you and guide you to formulate a beautiful solution. Guru Nanak said "the Creator and the Creation are One". If you cannot see God in all, you cannot see God at all.

Be patient with your father. Start your study and continue for 40 days. Let the hand of God give you your solution.
