dear sikhnet

Im really confused I was born in to a sikh family but they didnt really practice sikhism they just claimed it and i prefer christian beliefs more and trust jesus but i feel like im betraying guruji is it okay if i believe in both religions.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. The question isn't what you can believe, the question is, what do you practice? What do you DO? As Sikhs we can love Jesus, and appreciate him, but unfortunately we do not accept any person in human form as God, and that is pretty fundamental to Christianity. Whatever your parents do or don't do, since you were born into a Sikh family, my suggestion would be that you make an effort to EXPERIENCE what really BEING a Sikh can give you! That means, that you read from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib --- it is a Shabd Guru and is a powerful way to elevate your mind and your awaken your consciousness of your own divine soul! Reciting the Banis is a tool the Gurus gave us to make our lives more effective and efficient and to enable us to remember that God is with us all the time. It's maybe easier just to "believe" that Jesus is your "saviour" -- but as Sikhs we don't believe we were born in sin anyway! Good grief man, every time you take a breath, don't you know it's God breathing in you? Ang Sang Wahe Guru! There's a technology in Sikh Dharma that -- as far as I'm concerned, is the best thing going. But, if a person is a Christian, and has that faith, then that is their choice, and as a Sikh, I would never try to convert that person to become a Sikh! That is one of the most beautiful things our Gurus taught, we don't proslytize! Try meditating before sunrise every morning, on your breath (God's gift of life), inhale deeply (through the nose) thinking SAT and then exhale (through the nose) thinking NAM. Eyes are closed. This seed sound affirms and confirms that Truth is your identity. You don't need any person to rescue you, or 'save' your soul. You were born as a divine being, here on earth to learn to be human! Do not betray your own soul, do not give distance to your destiny. Remember, you can love and respect and appreciate Jesus without becoming a Christian. May God bless you and Guru guide you, SP
