The language of Sikh gurbani, which includes the 'chants' is Gurmukhi. This language has a common alphabet, and for the most part is linguistically related to (old) Punjabi, the language of Punjab, India. However, many passages in our scripture, the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, include hindu, sanskrit, arabic and persian words. Sanskrit is a root language for many languages today, including most that are native to India. There are common words in English that derive from sanskrit. Do your research on this. Thanks. God bless you.
