Summary of Question:	Scriptures That Came Before Sggs

Greetings,

Do Sikhs believe in any divinely inspired religion before Sikhism eg Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Hinduism ? Do Sikhs believe that any of the books of these religions were originally divinely inspired books and thus true eg Bible (OT or NT), Koran or Vedas ? Thankyou.

Sikhs do not judge the 'truth' or not of any other scripture, period. This is because a Sikh knows that each person describes and worships God according to his or her own understanding. Moreover, for a Sikh, the Truth is universal and thus present in some form in all faiths and scriptures. Thankfully we simply don't 'go there' and condemn other Scriptures as false. Sikhs don't have to agree with them or the interpretations of them, but it is not our place to judge them or declare them as untrue.

Wherever you see the Koran or Bible or Vedas referenced in Siri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS, the Sikh scripture), it does not declare that those scriptures are false. Guru takes issue with practices in any religion that end up as mere rituals that have no merit in developing one's relationship to the Creator. Still, Guru is firm that one can be born from ANY faith (as were Guru Nanak, Kabir, Nam Dayv, and Sheik Fareed, to name a few of the authors in SGGS) and that ANYONE can attain true spirituality through meditation on the Name of God. If you read Sukhmani Sahib or Sidh Gosht in SGGS, you will see this for yourself. God bless you,
