Summary of Question:Distribution Of Parshad
Category:Gurdwara

Dear Sikh Youth,

Guru Fateh!

I would be grateful if my question is answered.
Please let me know the procedure of distributing the parshad among the sadh sangat after the 'hukam' has been read. Is it to be given to the Panjj Piyaras first? If yes,If they are not there then what?

It feel a wrong practise is being followed in our Gurudwara where the "Panjj kours" meant for the Panjj Piyaras are distributed to the Committee members (who themselves are not Amritdhari sikh) and then to the rest of the Sadh Sangat. Is this correct? Is it not that the 'Panjj kours' are mixed with the rest of the Parshad and distributed evenly among every body
Please remove my doubts.

Devinder

Dear Devinder Ji:
Sat Siri Akaal. Proper gurprashad protocol is as follows:
After the Hukam is read, the Guruparshad is first symbolically served to the Panj Piaray. This may be done by actually serving it to five people. (It is not appropriate to seek out Amritdhari Sikhs for this ceremony. All members of the sangat are equal in the Gurudwara. These people are served again when the general Sangat is served. ) Or the server may meditatively place five servings of the Guruparshad into a separate plate and then mix it back into the original bowl. Then a small amount of Guruparshad is placed into a small steel bowl for the person serving as Guru Granthi. Now the entire sangat may be served.

So, to answer your question, it is discrimination to give prashad to the 5 Committee members ALL the time.

Guru rakha,
