Summary of Question:Can Someone Explain To Me A Day At The Gurdwara?
Category:General Q's from Non-Sikhs

Hello,

My son has a project to do an "A Day at the Gurdwara"
Would someone mind to share with us what a day at the Gurdwara would consist of?
Also, would we be welcome to visit a Gurdwara? And if so, are there any customs that we should observe?

Respectfully yours,

Nancy

My dear Nancy,

what a great project.
I would reccommend your son contacting one of your local Gurdwara's.Ask for the General Secretary's phone number and phone him to make an appointment to meet someone from the GUrdwara to host you and show you around.

You might suggest coming during the weekend when many activities are happening at the Gurdwara.
Then your host can take you through the Gurdwara....perhaps there are Sunday morning classes for children in kirtan. And at the same time a large gathering of the community for Kirtan (performance of singing of Sikh scriptures). Some speeches and prayers. The free kitchen will be bustling with families preping the Indian vegie food. And then serving it to all.

Ao, you will find that there could be a lot going on during the Sunday and that will give your son the material to write on what happens in the Sikh Gurdwara during his day there.

Many blessings to you,
SK
