The following points might help you to do your Nitnem better.
(1) Prepare your body (2) Prepare your mind. (3) Know the meanings of five banis.
When one gets up at amrit vela after required sleep and takes bath, physically one is
at the best state of health compared to any other time during the day. Moreover higher
oxygen level in the air at amrit vela stimulates the brain,hence the concentration is better.

To prepare our mind lets remember the saakhi of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Bhai Jhanda ji.
One day Bhai Jhanda ji asked guru ji, My mind wonders when I recite gurbani-
What should I do? Guru ji said,- Today it wont wonder ,try it. After Bhai Jhanda ji
finished the paath,he said, Guru ji I really felt the bliss today. Guru ji asked, WHY?
Bhai Jhanda ji replied, because guru ji you were here with me. Guru ji said?
In future always feel that I am with you when you recite gurbani.
We can prepare our mind by saying a short prayer before the nitnem and request guru ji
Please be with me and help me concentrate and feel happiness while doing nitnem.
Ardas alone will change the frame of mind to happiness at the very beginning if we
Sincerely try to feel HIS presence.( guru mere sang sadha hai naalay)

Some basic knowledge of the meanings of banis is necessary because gurbani is the
Philosophy to be understood to live accordingly. Please learn the simple and brief
meanings of all the banis. While doing nitnem the meaning of that line should be in
your mind. This will not let your mind to wonder. You will agree that most of us do not
know the meanings of nitnem despite the fact that we have been doing nitnem since
many many years. It might take 15-20 minutes extra to do nitnem like this but you will
feel the difference
