When visiting a Sikh Temple, entering the main temple room, are there any customs to follow ?

e.g.
What i need to do after entering the temple room ? COVER YOUR HEAD BEFORE ENTERING, REMOVE YOUR SHOES, WASH YOUR HANDS, COME IN WITH AN ATTITUDE OF REVERENCE AND BOW AND MAKE AN OFFERING IF YOU LIKE.
What i need to do before leaving the temple room ? GO WITH GRACE AND AWARENESS.

Why we have to cover the head (both men and women? ) with a cloth when entering the temple room or the dinning hall ? COVERING YOUR CROWN CENTER GIVES YOU AWARENESS OF SOMETHING GREATER THAN YOU.......YOU COVER YOUR HEAD ALSO TO SHOW HUMILITY AND CONSIOUSNESS.

It seems there is no deities installed inside the temple room for worship, but there is an altar as well ?
WE DO NOT WORSHOP IDOLS. OUR FOCUS IS THE SHABD/WORD OF THE GURU THAT WE SING AND RECITE AND MEDITATE TOGETHER IN THE GROUP.
Thanks for your help
