As part of my higher education, we are studying other religions. I have noticed there are many similarities between Islam, Catholisism and Judasim; but sikhism remains unique. I as a sikh was asked a question to which I did not know the answer to so I am turning to you to help me so that I can give my fellow class mates an answer.

The question is :- " Is maturbation permitted in Sikhism?"
I know that this is a taboo subject and that generally that sex between two people who are not married is a sin. I also know that relationships which involve sins of the flesh are not allowed in our society due to reasons of dignity/"izzat".
Please could you answer my genuine question, because I have no one else to ask.

I do not think that masturbation is really a spiritual activity. As far as being allowed, I have not heard it mentioned in the Rehit Maryada.

But seriously...we have responded in great detail in this Youth Forum as to why it is better not to masturbate...and how to overcome this seemingly strong desire that many young people have.

It is not a sin, but do search "masturbation" on the search engine and see all that we have written on it. Educate yourself, there are many pages for you to read.
