SAT SRI AKAL,

Hi, I've like the questions that people have that they are dealing with, because some of them relate to me.
This question popped up today (JULY 6), you see my aunt wanted to go to the mundr. I still have no clue why she wanted to but she said she went there in India too, but she was never sure where to find the mundr's here. Luckily, I had seen one with my friend while we were cruising down that same road. So, I told her I would go with her. Before that, I told my mom that my musi and I were gonna go. My mom, as she's a sikh, had a fit on why I shouldn't go, and why I couldn't. She said that we are sikhs and our place of worship is the gurdwara. I'm not a pure sikh no more, which I'm not sayin that I could do whatever, but I don't see why we couldn't go, oh yeah, my musi isn't a sikh either. My mom said that we should stick to our faith and not leave it. It's not like we were gonna go and change our religions. My mom and me were ready to fight, not even, but hold a debate on this.
My question is that are we as sikhs allowed to go and mutha take at another place of worship ? Is it wrong, if yes, how ?

(REPLY)

As Sikhs, we respect all religions. As Sikhs, we bow ONLY to our Guru, Siri Guru Granth Sahib. So, yes, you should be free to visit any temple, mosque, synagogue, church in the world, but you DO NOT BOW DOWN there. That is the main thing. With that condition, you can go to other places of worship. Yes, as Sikhs, our place of worship is the Gurdwara, but we can go and visit other places where people of other religions gather to worship in their way. Remember, we do not try to convert anyone to become a Sikh, but neither will we let anyone shake our faith in the One God and our Guru! I hope this helps clarify your problem.

Blessings. SP
