You should figure out what really matters. Is your physical body going to last forever? Are these earthly pleasures your ultimate goal for all time? THinking beyond this physical existence can give you balance in your thinking. If you don't relate to your soul, you will not do well at the end of your life when you are preparing for your next step.
Living as a khalsa doesn't preclude having pleasures in life. It only leaves out the ones that don't elevate you.
Your hair is far more than an outer appearance. It is like the antenna on a Television. It gives you a clear picture of the non-physical world - it gives you intuition to understand and deal with situations. That's why you feel lost without it, because you actually *ARE* more lost.
Just do simple experiment. First make a journal of your mental state now, confused, unhappy on a deeper level, etc. Then fully practice your Dharma fully for 6 months or a year. Grow your hair, wear your turban, read Banis, and meditate on Siri Guru Granth Sahib. After the time is up take stock of your mental state and compare them. See for yourself, don't take someone else's word for it.
