Let me clarify the covering of the hair detail.

When we take Amrit, we are vowing not to "cut" our hair. If you had to cover your hair at all times you would be totally swathed in cloth from head to toe.

The directive is to cover the head, the crown, when: we go out of our home, or when we are at home doing our nitnem, or doing cooking or eating food, being in the presence of the Guru or a respected person.

Out Rehit Maryada are practical guidelines for guiding us to have a clear and conscious experience of life. It is to help us make proper choices.

Washing the hair and the body is a practical issue.Cleanliness is very much a part of our Maryada. We wear a wooden comb to keep our hair combed and neat and remind us to wash it once or twice a week.

When you wash your hair it also very important for your hairs to be open so they can dry in the air. Also having the sun on the crown when you dry your hair is also very beneficial to the health of your hair. The hairs are antenna for your body and gather vitamin D and C from the sun when they are wet.
