im so sorry to hear about your bad experience at the gudwara. they are obviously not a good sangat and so you are better off away from them. i hope you can try and find another gudwara. i can assure you that no gudwara worth its name would behave in such a way, certainly not the ones i know of, and definately not the radiant harimandir at amritsar.
Guru Nanaks teachings were universal and his time he sat and spoke to muslims hindu and many other religions so please do not feel you have any less right of access to sikh than anyone else, including sikhs themselves.
i hope you will not let some bad actions upset you.
