This question is very straightforward, and does not require days of contemplation to answer. A Sikh is anyone who accepts Siri Guru Granth Sahib as their True Guru, and who lives according to the teachings of Siri Guru Granth Sahib. The foundation of every view, value and practice that a Sikh needs in order to be an authentic Sikh can be found in Siri Guru Granth Sahib. This definition is true and universal the world around, regardless of race, background, gender or cultural origin.

It is possible to download a copy of Siri Guru Granth Sahib (in English or Gurmukhi) onto your own computer. It is a good thing to do this, to read Siri Guru Granth Sahib regularly, and to contemplate and study what Guru tells us, as the primary means for learning what it is to be a Sikh. There is no better source than our Guru, directly. Similarly, when we have a problem, there is no better place to turn for insight and comfort. We should give our devotion and our sincere, best efforts in life, and Guru does the rest. By Guru's Grace, and our active participation, everything can become blessed. And life works out. You'll see.

Thank you for wanting to clarify your understanding.

Humbly,
Krishna Singh Khalsa
