Summary of Question:rahith maryada
Category:Sikh Practices
Date Posted:Saturday, 7/29/2000 11:26 PM MDT

could someone please tell me who wrote the rahith maryada. i have been told two conflicting answers. one was that it was written by Guru Gobind Singh, the other that at one time all the heads of the takhts got together and drew up a document so that there would be consistency in the lifestyles of the sikhs worldwide. it the answer is the second one, then aren't we relying on the interpretation of someone else and trying to lead our life as someone else has seen fit at the time or writting.

confused, need guidance.

Dear One,

The Rehit Maryada and the vision of Khalsa was given to Guru Gobind by God. He gave it to us on Baisakhi 1699. It was set and clearly a life formula given to us to live clear and God conscious through out all time and space...most importantly through the mental doubt and degadation of values that we now face in society.

The SGPC does have a standardized form of the Rehit Maryada. Some Sikh groups have difference of opinion as to what the Rehit Maryada is.

You can refer to "Victory & Virtue" Ceremonies & Code of Conduct of Sikh Dharma, Chapter 2 and Chapter 10 to get the full information. It is on Sikhnet.

God bless you in your search for the Truth.
Aad Sach, Jugad Sach, Haibhee Sach, Nanak Hosee bhee Sach.
It was true in the begining, true through all the ages, it is truth now, and Nanak says it shall ever be true.....this is the only truth to relate to.

God bless you and keep up------chardi kala.
