Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa,
Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.

Hitting your daughter for smoking cigarettes will probably make her go out and have a drink, too. Not the best approach.

Sit down and have a very honest, adult to adult talk about cigarettes. Let her know that you know she is smoking. Discuss the health risks associated with it. Try to find out why she's started smoking-to be accepted by friends? It is to appear more attractive?

Communicating honestly with your daughter is the only way to get through to her. And even then, she may not quit. She may just smoke behind your back. What you can do is (1) try to establish good communication with her so you can discuss your concerns and (2) Set up house rules. What she does when she's out of your sight is between her and God, but you can make rules about smoking inside the house.

In order to keep your peace of mind, meditate on Gurbani and give your daughter's life to the Guru. Understand that Guru is with her, that Guru is guiding her and ask for Guru's blessing to show you how to best serve your daughter so she can come into her truest, highest and best identity.

You can also try grounding your daughter for smoking-not letting her out of the house for a while. This may help her rethink smoking, but then-it also might just fuel the flames of her hiding things from you even more.

God bless and good luck. Remember -the communicating with your daughter honestly is the door which offers the best chance at a solution.

Sincerely,

GPK
