One of my friends has an earing, trims his beard, and drinks. People sometimes

tell him that there is no point in him keeping his turban. I have heard people say that this is the uniform of the Amritdhari Sikh so if one does not live the life of an Amritdhari Sikh there is no point in keeping your hair. So, my question is whether or not there is any point in him keeping his hair?

Sat Nam. It is sad that your friend "has an earring, trims his beard and drinks." But there is still a value in keeping the hair! Hair has a lot of value, as has been asked and answered several times already in this forum. Perhaps one day your friend may wake up to the realization that drinking is damaging his clarity of thinking-- and in excess, of course destroys the liver -(and of course is contrary to Sikh values). Perhaps one day he will respect his body (and his religion)and be very grateful that he never cut his hair! It would be wonderful to believe that everyone who wears a turban keeps perfect rehit, but we don't know if that is the case. But we do know that Hair is a protection for the body, it is like antennae for energy, and it helps the body absorb Vit. D from sunshine. the most famous story about the power of hair is that of Samson and Delilah in the Bibile -- where Samson, the "strongest man on earth" lost his strength when the treacherous Delilah cut off his hair while he was asleep! Th

e turban, of course, protects the hair and head from dust and dirt, actually helps concentration by placing pressure on the temples, and it does act as a reminder that he is a Sikh! Blessings, SP
