The spirit of sikhism is not dying, The reason I think so is we have been celebrating the 300th year since Guru Gobind Singh Ji created KHALSA. I personally have heard many cases where sikhs have been baptised and taken the holy amrit and have become amrithari's. My Father is one of them. I on the other hand have not, but I do abide by the teachings of the Guru Ji -- don't trim your beard or cut your hair. Especially when children and teenagers are being baptised with the holy amrit. Sikhism has been around for over 500 odd years and will carry on into the next millenium very strong.
