Sat Sri Akal!

I would like to ask what I have to do exactly to embrace Sikhism? At first, I wanted to convert because I was going to marry a Sikh. But he broke up. But in that time I learned so much about Sikhism that it doesn't make a difference whether I marry him or not. I am absolutely sure that I want to embrace Sikhism and adjust to everything it takes.
I live in Germany and I am christian, but never believed in most of the things. The things I really believe in, can only be found in Sikhism.
There is a gurdwara in my city which is very near. Is it a good idea to just go there? I have never been to a gurdwara before and I am a little afraid because I don't want to offend anyone in case I do something wrong in there.
And how does becoming s Sikh happen? I don't mean the lifestyle. Rather official things or is there a cermony?

Sat Siri Akal.

A Sikh is a seeker of truth. There's no special ceremony to convert, no special training you need to go through. It's a personal decision to begin to relate to the Siri Guru Granth Sahib as your spiritual guide.

There is some good information on Sikhism in the Sikh Dharma Manual here on SikhNet. You can go to this link:
http://www.sikhnet.com/Sikhism

The Manual has a chapter about Gurdwara and that can help you prepare to go.

If you live in Hamburg, there is also a 3HO center there. Many people in 3HO are also Westerners who have chosen to become Sikhs and they can help answer your questions and support you as you go through this change in your life.

God bless you and may the Guru keep you ever in His light.

All love,

GPK
