Sat Sri Akal

Okay i was doing my reserch on sikh weddings for my speech class. and while i was conducting the reseach i came accross the Golden Temple attecks and i looked into it because i wanted to know what the Americans thought about Sikhs. well the americans thought of the sikhs as terrious because of what Indira Ghandi had said about sikhs. for all i know she haded sikhs becase we were sikhs. if sikhs were Terrorist it would because we are proctecting ourselves from the people who are trying to hurt us. i was really bothered of what the american newspapers said. they were basicly trying to say that sikhs were Terrorist. i want to do something about it. is their anyting i can do?because this is not making me in a happy state. i dont know what to doooo.

Sat Siri Akaal. Leave it alone. The American press in 1984 knew NOTHING about Sikhs, and essentially reported it from the perspective of the Indian government. If the same thing (Op. Bluestar) happened today in Amritsar, the level of understanding about Sikhs/Sikhi in America is so much greater that Sikh communities around the USA would be making sure that the press does not mis-represent Sikhs. If you asked just about any person on the street in the USA about the Golden Temple or Op. Bluestar they would look at you funny and ask what are you talking about? The best way to show your community that Sikhs are NOT terrorists is to act and speak in peace. Set an example of virtue and values and do so as if you represent ALL Sikhs, not just yourself.
