Guru Fateh ji,

My question is as follows: Is it necessary to wear kurta pajama while sitting on tabya of Guru Granth Sahib at Gurudwara. If yes, why?? On the other side if itīs yes, then can one do kirtan at Gurudwara in sporty or other clothes, while itīs also gurubani.

Regards,

Sat Sri Akal,

No, you can pretty much wear what you want to. A kurta pajama is very comfortable for sitting hours at a time. However, you should show respect at a Gurdwara and not come in shorts or overly flashy/trendy clothes. Just like we cover our head for respect, we should cover our bodies for respect in front of the Guru. A Gurdwara is a place for paath and sangat, not a place to show off that you have the latest style clothes. Come to a Gurdwara dressed in nice appropriate, respectful clothing.

Gur Fateh,
HSD
