Chicago Sikhs Host 9/11 Memorial Akand Path, Call on other Sikh Communities to Do the Same
This Chicago Sikh community is organizing an Akand Path dedicated to those who died in the attacks of September 11th, as well as those who have died from hate crimes committed in the aftermath of those attacks. The Akand Path will begin at 3 pm on September 9th at the Gurdwara Sahib of Chicago, 2341 W. Denton Ave. Volunteers from the Sikh community will perform the continuous reading of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib and the reading is open to the general public to attend. The reading will finish at approximately 6 pm on September 11th.
S.S. Shiva Singh Khalsa, Sikh Dharma Illinois, is hoping that other Sikh communities in the United States and overseas will be inspired to organize similar readings in their own Gurdwaras. “This unique Sikh ceremony bestows the highest level of respect,” Khalsa said. “It is a fitting memorial for the terrible acts of 9/11 and the deaths of so many, including the Sodhi brothers and other victims of hate crimes.”
