Tarlochan Singh Sends Letter to Harvey Weinstein on Behalf of Sikh Community

On Thursday, April 3rd, Tarlochan Singh, Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities in India, sent a letter Harvey Weinstein, Co-Chariman of Miramax. In the letter Tarlochan discussed his concerns that the film Dysfunktional Family could potentially incite hate crimes against Sikh Americans. In the film, comedian Eddie Griffin refers to a bearded and turbaned Sikh man as "Bin Ladin."

"After September 11th, the film industry delayed the release of and edited certain movies in order to be sensitive to current events," Tarlochan Singh wrote. "Though this movie is due to be released on April 4th, I am requesting that you delay the release of the film and edit the Sikh-related scenes out of a sensitivity to the current climate."
