Sat nam. We do not recommend anyone take amrit until they are truly ready to commit to Sikhi. The vows of amrit require far more wisdom and maturity than they do youthful enthusiasm. This is what should guide your decision on amrit, not peer pressure, parental pressure, or some kind of thing to prove at school.
It has been recommended on this forum in the past that school students settle for small, symbolic kirpans that can be worn in the turban or around the neck and that are seen, not unseen. Many schools have legitimate concerns about the larger kirpans worn in gatras. While in the USA and Canada, it has become a legal issue, fact is some kirpans are just sharp/pointy enough to be a danger in the wrong hands (not necessarily the wearer's). I have no doubt that 10th Guru would understand this situation, and the smaller versions can count as one of the 5 Ks in a school environment.
