Sat Siri Akaal. Your understanding of Sikhi is absolutely on target. Now, that doesn't mean that there isn't a jaat out there who would make a good husband. It DOES mean that you should not have your options limited by caste. This is hardly the Sikh way. Your family is concerned about their reputation, for if you marry outside your caste, the fear is that others will talk and your parent's standing will diminish. So, instead of just saying no way to your parents, start by making them explain to you very clearly and specifically why it is so important that caste be observed here. Good luck! Chant the naam to keep your balance! Guru ang sang,
