Summary of Question:Dont Use Word 'Dead' For Gurus
Category:General Sikhism

Sat Shri Akaal,

I was recently reading an article related to 'muslim' where you were giving the example of '9th guru also died to save' I want to clearify that they are eternal ad not dead. Even Lord Krishna stated to Arjuna 'Declare boldly that my devotees never perish". If devotees are forever, our Guru's are part of that big God- so how can you use the word dead.

Request-KINDLY REFRAIN USING SUCH WORDS NOT ONLY FOR SIKH GURU'S BUT FOR ANY AVTAAR- I am not that spiritually learned but felt like clearing you.

All the best!

Sat siri akaal. Please do not confuse the issue here.
Our 10 Gurus have left their PHYSICAL bodies. Earthly death is only that, the passing away of the physical form. None of the moderator's responses concerning the deaths of the 10 gurus are meant to indicate that our Gurus do not exist. Of course they are immortal, as are we all. Soul is immortal. Physical body is temporary.
The quote you cite above by Krishna refers to this soul level immortality, not to a physical form. Read your japji. Nanak talks about universes within universes and worlds upon worlds. Existence is not confined to the planet earth. In fact, one's earthly existence is just a piece of a much much larger existence, and Gurus all taught us that to escape the cycle of earthly births and deaths and to be 'panch parvaan" we must meditate on the naam.
Guru ang sang,
