I would like to say the the guy who wants to be a fighter pilot that your story is amazing. I feel that you have gained so much and become a much stronger person by walking the path towards being a fighter pilot. That is a big lesson in itself and should be acknowledged.

As far as whether you should take the position or not, my humble opinion would be (as the moderators said) to take the position, but not to cut your hair. It sounds like you are a very gifted person and in a great position to challenge people's ideas in big organisations.

On the other hand, I think that you should simply follow your gut instinct. This might be controversial on this site, but I believe that you should really think about what your hair means to you. If your hair stops you from doing what you feel is your path, then is it really that important? Cutting your hair doesn't have to mean that you are losing your values - it is just a symbol. What you have inside is important. Keep things in perspective. I don't think you can give up now, you will regret it.

Good luck!

=----

Thank you for your opinion. All I can add is that we need to stand up for our values. Blacks couldn't take off their skin, so they had to fight for their rights. How will modern society learn to be tolerant if we all cower to it's ignorance and prejudice? GTKK
