I'm in a difficult situation, my family and I are Sikhs and I really want to start keeping my hair, but my family doesn't want me to because they don't want me to face discrimination. What should I do?
Thank you

Sat Nam,
It is always a complex issue of being who you are or want to be when you are living in your parents' home. It maybe totally OK to wait until you are on your own to live your life the way you want. It is not always worth it to pick fights at home and make life difficult for your parents and your self. What ever they chose for themselves is based on their believes and is to be respected as well. By rebelling you may not be able to make any positive progress in this area.
I think it is great that you have the desire to keep your hair and face the world with no fear of discrimination but it is also not to me to tell you what to do. You should do what your heart tells you and if you feel that this is certainly for you and you have to accomplish this now you may want to try. Everyone's situation is very different. Do meditate on it some more and weigh all the pros and cons then do what you feel is right at this time.
Good Luck,
DKK
