Sat Siri Akaal. If one identifies as a Sikh and chooses to live fully as a Sikh, practicing Hindu rituals is wrong. We only worship Siri Guru, and no other, including Lakshmi. I do not know what the other practice is that you cite but I believe that if it were a standard Sikh practice I would know of it. Guru Nanak said that no liberation comes from ritualistic practice. He said that the wealth of the Naam comes by daily practice of the naam, by seva, and through gurbani. No ritual can confer this. What more can I say?

If you mean WAXING of your beard or mustache to hold it in place, this is your choice. Many men find it helpful in keeping stray hairs out of their mouths or noses. Waxing is controlling the hair, but it is not permanently altering the hair, so it cannot be said to be wrong. It is not much different than knotting and tying the beard up to keep it neat and 'out of the way.'
