sasrikaalji.

at the moment i am looking to recite japji sahib every morning. as generations follow less knowledge of sikhi has been passed down and therefore the input of effort remains with an individual. my question is that there are 38 verses followed from the mool mantar, as far as im aware. is it possible to recite/ listen to all 38 verses each morning? although u would make time, is it neccassary to listen to the whole of japji sahib?

thankyou.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. If you really want to understand how marvelous and important and powerful and wonderful (lots of adjectives!) Japji Sahib is, you might want to get the DVD that Sikh Dharma produced with exceerpts from the 2003 Japji Course that took place in New Mexico last year. (And there was another course this year as well.) If you recite Japji Sahib in the original Gurmukhi, you can do it ALL in less than ten minutes. Ragi Sat Nam Singh has a beautiful CD with a musical recitation that takes maybe 20 minutes. When you ask "is it NECESSARY...?" -- well, that depends upon your commitment to follow the rehit given by Guru Gobind Singh -- plus or at least your commitment to your own higher consciousness and connection to your own soul --- which is, after all the purpose of life -- to know that God lives and breathes in you, and to start each day with that consciousness -- and that is the power of Japji Sahib. You can also read the English translation (along with the Gurumukhi and a transliteration) on Sikhnet. Blessings, SP
