Sat Siri Akaal. All the gurus kept their kesh. From Guru Hargobind on (except Guru Harkrishan) they often or always had a sword. The kara was a symbol of Sikhs' allegiance to GUru, and I don't know when that started, but it was not with Guru Nanak. It more likely began with 6th or 7th Guru because by that time we were marked as enemies of the mughals. So the simple answer to your question is that the Gurus before 10th Guru did not keep what we know as the 5 Ks.
