hi,

i hope this is'nt a offensive question....y was there a need to make sikhism? us sikhs hav converted from hindus's or muslim's into sikhs, at one point we were following a different religion. Guru Nanak Dev Ji came to show us a new way of living, our history tell us stories where baba ji showed hindus and muslim that they were carrying out practices which had no meaning, eg wearing the thread...the quran facing a certain way, where god is present, throwing water up to the sun etc...relising this, people then became sikhs. does this mean that al our muslim and hindu friends follow religions which show the wrong way of living? if no, then y was there a need to meke sikhism?

(REPLY)Sat Nam. People became Sikhs (sishyas, or students) of the Truth that Guru Nanak taught, because it made sense to them, it answered the call of their souls, as even today, people decide to be Sikhs -- even if they were born into another religion, because the teachings of our Guru -- starting with Guru Nanak through Guru Gobind Singh and embodied in the Siri Guru Granth Sahib fulfills their spiritual needs. As you know, we do NOT criticize other religions, and we do not try to convert anyone. We respect the rights of Hindus and Muslims to worship God as they choose, so it's not a question of who is right but rather of what is right for each individual. blessings, SP
