Category:Gurbani
Date Posted:Friday, 6/18/2004 9:52 PM MDT

On pages 1426-9 in Guru Granth Sahib are The Shaloks composed by Guru Tegh Bahadur, the Ninth Guru, shortly before his execution

in 1675. They come at the end of the Guru Granth and are prominent in Bhog
ceremonies. Is this true? Did the ninth guru compose these last saloks?

Yes, these sloks were indeed composed by 9th Guru. I do not know exactly WHEN, but he has other bani in Siri Guru Granth Sahib, not just the sloks. You would have to find a SIkh scholar of SGGS or a good history of 9th Guru to learn WHEN he composed them. When 5th Guru first compiled the Adi Granth he left 'spaces' in places because he knew some one of his successors would be adding bani to those places. When 10th Guru recited the Adi Granth to his scribe, he added the bani of his father at that time. (Granth had been lost so the entire thing was recited by 10th Guru and recorded by Bhai Mani Singh.)
