Sat Sri Akal,

I've visited this forum often and am really thankful for the services you provide. I have a personal problem.

A year my mum got to meet someone. He has been actively practicing religion for a long time (eg paath every morning etc). He does not take any money from anyone but 'helps' people, eg he reads the palms of a person as well as their face and is able to inform them about the future or current issues. He also tells everyone that they should go to Gurudwara regularly, do paath in the morning etc. He said a few things which were very personal and accurate so my mum has full faith in him. He is also able to look at a photo and tell information about people. My mum showed him my husband's photo. He said some very disturbing things - eg that my husband hynotises me, wants to take control over me, will mentall torture me when he has taken control etc etc.

Since this person told some very accurate things, my mum has full faith in him. She has been losing her mind for the past year, she is in a serious state of depression. She made me go and meet him. I did meet him, I think he is a nice man but didn't like to hear what he said about my husband. Personally I don't feel any of it is true but he says I'm under his influence. I also have a child. He then asked me to just go to the Gurudwara and put "yes" or "no" on two pieces of paper and ask this question and then get my child to pick up a slip. On the slip that was selected - the answer was "yes" - ie that my husband is doing all these horrific things!!

Is this a correct way of asking Guru and should I be taking this as the advise of God?

I am really confused, I love my husband, he is a really nice man, a really good father. At the same time, I cannot see my mum going crazy b/c of all these issues.

I do Japji sahib daily but am getting more confused about this whole issue. A quick response would really be appreciated.

Many Thanks.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. God protect me from the psychics, they pollute and dilute my faith!!!! I am so sorry that your mother has fallen into the clutches of this palm reader. Psychics -- as well meaning as they may be,(you say he is a "nice" man, etc) yet they do not get their information from truly enlightened sources. As Guru Nanak explained in Japji Sahib, there are worlds upon worlds... There are many inner realms, and it is totally against our Sikh values to rely on such people for our guidance! The way to get guidance from Siri Guru Granth Sahib is to present yourself, do an Ardas, and then take a Hukam. The beauty of being a Sikh is that we do not need any intercessor, we do not need any priest to connect us to God! We can go directly to our Guru to get our inspiration and guidance. Unfortunately, your mother has put her faith in a man, and not in God and Guru. Remember, Guru Gobind Singh specifically gave us the Shabd Guru so that we would never have to rely on any human as our "Guru" Please help her to understand that! If your husband has already proved himself to be, as you say, a good man, and a good father, I am happy for you, and don't let anyone spoil that relationship for you!!! May God bless you and Guru guide you with wisdom and courage to accept only ultimate Truth, not some psychic's personal version of it! Humbly yours, SP
