i really need help from you .... How do we explain our parents that there us no caste system in Sikhism.....? please respond me back...!
(REPLY) Sat Nam. This is such a common situation, and it is tragic and pathetic that so many of the generation of your parents still cling to cultural traditions that are absolutely AGAINST the Sikh teachings of equality. It is very difficult to find a solution when they are so stuck in their prejudice and fear of social reaction that they will not listen to you. I wish I had the solution, but I don't know of any way to persuade them, because they simply make a big scene and cry and yell. This is irrational, emotional, and unfortunately usually effective, because as good children you don't want to hurt your parents. It is a sad state of affairs, and I hope and pray that with time your generation will make the necessary changes. Guru Nanak was outspoken against caste discrimination, and Guru Gobind Singh definitely was against it. May God bless you and your sister, and give you strength and wisdom to make the right choices.
