Dear Aman-
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! In our Gurus' time, contraception was not the science it is today. So it was never addressed directly in our teachings or rehit directly.
So look at it this way. Having a baby is a tremendous responsibility! It is not easy to be pregnant, and children need care around the clock. So, it is irresponsible to bring life into this world in a cavalier fashion, for we create a burden of karma for ourselves by bearing children we are ill-prepared to care for and teach. So, contraceptives are a gift for people -- married or not-- who do not want to bear children irresponsibly, yet, or at all.
