Summary of Question:Why Are Sikh Girls Marrying Hindu Punjabi Boys?

Sat Sri Akal,

My name is Gulzar and I am a 14 year old boy living in Brisbane, Australia. Most of my cousins live in London. My cousin who is 26 is getting married in the tradional arranged marriage way. But the thing that bothers me is that she is getting married to a Hindu Punjabi boy from India. I read some other questions about marrying out of religion and the reply usually says that it best for a Sikh to get married only to a Sikh.

I asked my mother about this and she said that my cousins mother (my aunty) said that they could not find a good sikh boy for my cousin to get married too. She said that most of the sikh boys were drinking alcohol and were not well educated.

The same thing has happened with my other cousins (marrying a hindu boy) and I feel ashamed that this is happening.

I read the other questions and it says that a Sikh should only marry a Sikh, but is this always true?

Greetings and blessings to you in the Name of God and Guru.

The best marriage situation is to marry a SIkh. The parents and family could look a bit more thoroughly....i.e.on Sikhnet matrimonials etc.

Whenever intermarriage occurs, the couple should agree to both practice Sikhee and raise the children as practicing Sikhs. There are many Hindu's who pray in the Gurdwara and read from Siri Guru Granth Sahib and do Path. This is not a problem.

The answer to your last question, is it always true that a Sikh should marry only a SIkh? There are always individual cases and exceptions.
