Maybe you might look at it from a different perspective: instead of thinking it's tough to be a Sikh guy, consider that it's cool to be a tough Sikh guy!
I admire a fellow who wears the turban and beard, and I frankly find it a very handsome look. If you can hold your head up and act like an honorable man while hearing all this garbage about "BinLadin Junior," then you prove yourself to be a tough man, a noble man, and a far better man than the one who tried to bring terror to the US shores. By tough I mean guts, inner strength. It takes backbone to do the right thing and stand your ground when it comes to your principles. And when you've got the guts to do it without compromising yourself, or throwing insults at people, then you've maintained the dignity of the Sikh people and faith.
Girls think your beard is gross? Their loss, dude! Any girl who can't look beyond the skin is someone you don't want to go to the movies with, let alone consider for a lifetime commitment. My husband's no movie star, but he's got strong faith and a lot of brainpower. And he is proud to wear his turban, and brags that at his age he's never in his life had a haircut. I'll take a man of principle and an intellectual over a male-model type any day of the week. Handsome only lasts a while. God and learning are for a lifetime and they make inner beauty.
And the Chewbacca thing? Just tell them that all that hair made him famous!
Blessed be,
Elizabeth
