I know that just because we wear turbans people start looking at us. Why do people look at us we are still Americans and we love America

(REPLY) I'm a Sikh. I was born in America, (I'm not Indian) I'm an American a I became a Sikh over 30 years ago, because I met someone who was a Sikh, wearing a turban, and I learned about what it means to be a Sikh. I liked what I heard! I wear a turban. People look at me, too. Most Americans do not wear turbans. Anyone who looks different is bound to attract attention. This is a GOOD thing! I tell people - who often ask why I am dressed differently -- that as Sikhs we do not proslytize, but we do advertise! And that we dress distinctively so that we cannot hide our identity! That it is part of our religion to have the courage to identity ourselves by the way we dress. Just as a fireman or a policman or a nurse wears a uniform, we have a uniform and it includes a turban. This is a wonderful way to introduce more and more Americans to the precious teachings of our Gurus. Many Americans still don't know who Sikhs are, and this is our opportunity to share the blessings we have been given. Smile at the people who stare at you! Let them know that you are friendly. What a good-will ambassador you can be for the Guru! Blessings, SP
