    ECUADOR, South America

    By S.S. Gurubachan Singh Khalsa

Ecuador lies in between Colombia and Peru. It is the mind of South America. Its land is comprised of three parts: coastal, mountains, and amazonia. Its people from the three different regions are known as monos, serranos and orientales. The Ecuadorians are gracious people who are simple, humble, highly intelligent and mannerful. It is the only country in South America that uses American dollars for its currency.

Quito, the capital, is about 9000 feet above sea level in the middle of the country in the middle of the mountains. It is a beautiful city surrounded by mountains that are always dancing with the clouds. It is very mystical the way the clouds roll, slide and bank off the mountains. It is also a land that is 1/3 indigenous whose culture is intricately woven in its arts and crafts, music and dress. The people are soft, smiling and genuine.

We were met in Quito by Har Hari Singh, Hari Narayan Kaur (his mother) and many others. After checking into the hotel we were all escorted to Baalbek Lebanese Restaurant for dinner. The owners of the restaurant opened just to serve us because it was holiday.

The following morning we were driven outside the city to the Lord of Miracles lecture and class. After 2 hours of meditation, yoga and bhangarha we were all treated to the best vegetarian Ecuadorian cuisine. That evening we were given a tour of Quito Viejo (Old Quito) and met with all the new Kundalini Yoga teachers.

The next day we taught a vegetarian cooking class at Fernandas vegetarian restaurant and from there we spent the afternoon seeing all the most beautiful cathedrals and churches in Quito. Our hosts: Har Hari Singh, Sat Prakash Kaur and Dev Dharam was amazed how everywhere we went as a group we were stopped by so many people being inquisitive. We were amazed that the tremendous beauty, intricacy and grandeur of the churches.

In the morning, Har Hari Singh and I flew to Cuenca, the third largest city in Ecuador where we have several yoga teachers who arranged the Lord of Miracles Lecture. Cuenca looks like Quito 30 years ago. It is a beautiful colonial city restored to perfection. After enjoying pizza and walking around the city we gave our final Lord of Miracles lecture and class. It is amazing to see how people from all walks of life embrace and practice the teachings we have been given to share with the world. Early the next morning we flew back to Quito, enjoyed one more lunch with the sangat and from there we said goodbye to South America and the 4th Lord of Miracles Tour in Honor of Guru Ram Das. We hope you enjoyed this historic event.

The following pictures and captions will give you a taste of Ecuador, its people and culture.

We are continually asked about who we are and what it is that we teach during the tour. In this picture S.S. Gurubachan Singh explains to a woman how to meditate in a market right outside the city of Quito, Ecuador.

Even as age takes its toll, somehow South Americans still maintain their beauty.
